Basic White Bread

Basic White Bread

1/2 cup milk (low fat is ok)
3 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons salt
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 packages active dry yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water
5 to 6 cups all purpose flour

Place milk,sugar salt and butter in small saucepan.Heat over low heat until butter melts
and sugar dissolves.Cool to lukewarm.
Dissolve yeast in warm water in warmed bowl.Add lukewarm milk mixture and 4 1/2 cups flour.
Knead the dough about 5 minutes and keep adding the rest of the flour 1/2 cup at a time
until dough is smooth and elastic.Dough will be slightly sticky to the touch.
Place dough in greaded bowl,turning to grease top.Cover.Let it rise in warm place,
free from draft,about 1 hour,or until double in bulk.
Divide the dough in half,shape each half into a loaf on a floured surface,roll each half into a rectangle
and roll it tightly.Pinch to seal the seam.
Place in greased loaf pan.Cover and let it rise in warm place,free from draft,about 1 hour or until double in bulk.
Bake at 400F until golden brown,about 30 minutes.remove from pans immediately and cool on wire racks.
